Highfields Canteen was the venue for the 2017 Harare Darts Association closed doubles tournament for players registered in the Harare darts league. The tournament being held for the second time after successful edition of the Open doubles event. The tournament did not attract a full house of players because of lack of attractive prizes.

The tournament was held after the end of the league championship battle which saw tree teams tied at the top of the log for the first time since the league was formed. Railton, ZRP Strikers and Flying Eagles are all tied up at the top with 63 points and had to be separated with a head to head system.

The Closed doubles event repeated the same scenario as the players from the top teams had to battle it out for the top four positions .The tournament saw ladies also participating with men as they could not raise enough numbers to compete on themselves. None of the ladies teams lasted the distance as they were outdone by their male counterparts.

It was left to the duo of Felix Magic Mauye & Daniel Snakebite Mavhura of ZRP Strikers against Chrispen VP Nkomo & Benjamin Musoja Raimoni of Flying Eagles to battle it out in the finals in a best of nine rounds. It took less than 60 minutes to dispatch the Flying Eagles pair as the Strikers pair took an assailable 3-0 lead and never let one set down to win the contest. The Strikers darts duo triumphed against the flying Eagles guys in emphatic style by edging them 5-2 to clinch the 2017 Closed doubles honours for the first time.

The third prize went to the Mavima brothers Tobias & Simba of Railton darts club, the second prize went to Chrispen Nkomo & Benjamin Raimoni of Flying Eagles.

The duo of Felix Mauye & Daniel Mavhura has also had good runs by winning the NDAZ April tournaments in Marondera and in Gweru the previous years. The duo proved themselves why they are the best two top players in the Harare darts league for the 2017 season.
