Zimbabwe Warriors slip four more places on the FIFA World rankings

Zimbabwe Warriors have continued their slide down the Fifa World Rankings after the latest list was published by the sport's governing body on Wednesday.

Normal Mapeza's men have slipped another four places to 102 on the global list and 25th on the continental list.

It is all a far cry from their 70th position achieved in November and it has been a massive drop down the rankings since then.

Zimbabwe Warriors have paid the prize for losing to lowly ranked teams.

A Zimbabwe Development XI side crashed out of the 2011 edition of the Cecafa Cup in Tanzania following a 1-0 defeat to eventual tournament winners Uganda at the quarter-final stage late last year. The third-string Warriors side also lost 2-0 to Rwanda in the early rounds of the same tournament.

In the October rankings, Norman Mapeza's charges were positioned 70th in the world and number 16 in Africa, in December they Warriors were ranked 98th in the world.

Cote d’Ivoire go into the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations as the top-ranked side on the continent, followed by Ghana, Algeria, Egypt and Senegal. Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Cape Verde Islands and Tunisia round out the top 10.

It is perhaps telling that only four of the continent's top 10 sides will be in the 2012 Nations Cup field, with the competition starting this weekend.

There was no change at all in the global top 10 list, which is still headed by current world champions Spain.

They are followed by Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay, England, Brazil, Portugal, Croatia, Italy and Argentina.
