Erina Jeke's powerful header gave Zimbabwe's Mighty Warriors a positive start to the African Women’s Championship campaign as they sank Botswana 1-0 in a match played at the University of Botswana Stadium this afternoon.

The Mighty Warriors' victory, which came 30 seconds into the second half, earned them a comfortable cushion ahead of the reverse fixture set for Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

After a first half performance which was characterised by a some jittery display by the Zimbabweans, it appeared the half time pep talk by coach, Rosemary Mugadza, worked wonders as her charges came back a transformed side.

With a bit of precision, Marjory Nyaumwe could have made it 2-0 in the 57th minute, but her shot was blocked by the Female Zebras keeper.

The Zebras created one clear chance for a goal towards the end of the match, but as fate could have two of their strikers well positioned to shoot faltered when it mattered most.

With the reverse fixture of the first leg of the preliminary round of the African Women Championships set for a fortnight at Rufaro Stadium, the result means Botswana now have to score two goals with no reply from Zimbabwe to proceed to the next round of the tournament.
