The construction of detour roads under phase one of the $150 million Masvingo highway expansion project is complete and will start to be operational next week paving way for the long awaited upgrading of the Beitbridge-Masvingo-Harare section.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joel Biggie Matiza accompanied by officials from the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA), toured the Beatrice and Chivhu section along Masvingo highway to assess progress made so far on construction of detour roads.

Minister Matiza expressed satisfaction over the job done so far saying the detour works which employed over 155 youths as of now will be opened next week for use by motorists as engineers kick start the actual upgrading of the first section of the main highway.

ZINARA has released $40 million to expedite the construction of detour roads and upgrading of the main highway which is expected to be completed in a period of three years six months.
