New Kwekwe mayor, Angeline Kasipo has chosen to sing from a hymn book different from that of her MDC boss, telling the media weekend she recognised President Emmerson Mnangagwa's leadership and would, accordingly, join hands with his appointees in furthering the interests of the Midlands city.

According to NewZimbabwe.com, MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has adamantly refused to recognise Mnangagwa as President.

He claims the State leader robbed him of his victory in the July 30 election.

His MPs have followed suit and in one instance, walked out on Mnangagwa when the President was delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) this past week.

However, Kasipo, elected first female post-independence mayor on an MDC ticket, has chosen to look beyond party politics in her bid to further the developmental interests of the gold mining city.

"The Minister of Local Government stays here in Kwekwe and we are going to be working with him," she said of Mnangagwa's top ally July Moyo.

"It doesn't matter which party he belongs to. What is important is that he is the minister.

"He was appointed to that position by the president to implement government policies.

It doesn't matter the party where the President comes from. What is important is that he is the President."

She added, "What is important is for us to deliver services to the people regardless of our political affiliations. The moment we get to be professional, then we will not have problems."

Kasipo defended the emergence Emmanuel Musara at town clerk adding that the Zanu-PF loyalist got the top job on merit.
Musara's bid to run for a city constituency in the July 30 election came to nought when he lost the Zanu-PF primaries.

He has since emerged as the city's most influential employee with Kasipo saying he was on the driving seat "because he is a professional".
