HIGHLANDERS coach Mandida Ndlovu has commended the club's fans who rallied behind the team even when the chips were down to stage a comeback and beat Shabanie Mine at Barbourfields Stadium in a league game on Sunday.

It was the Bulawayo giants' third home victory in seven matches as the crowds keep swelling at Barbourfields with every Highlanders' home game with close to 10 000 fans paying to watch the match against Shabanie Mine.

A determined Shabanie scored first in the early minutes of the game, but Highlanders got back into the game and scored three to collect maximum points.

Ndlovu reckons the 12th man was behind Highlanders' resurgence after the Shabanie Mine goal.

"The boys fought and responded to what we had been requesting; which is giving the best football to supporters. The fans come in numbers and the boys did not disappoint.

The turnaround of the game was probably influenced by our supporters who kept on cheering the boys and made them believe that they could turn the tables," Ndlovu said.

Defender Peter Muduhwa equalised for Highlanders against a gritty Shabanie five minutes before the breather with the other goals coming from Newman Sianchali, who also scored his first goal for Highlanders and midfielder Brian Banda who netted his second of the season.

Their next league game is against pacesetters Ngezi Platinum Stars at Baobab Stadium and could see a number of supporters following the team.

Ngezi are two points ahead of Highlanders after they beat Mutare City on Saturday and the game against the two leading clubs promises to be a blockbuster with Ngezi having won six and drawn one so far this season.
