Employee loses teeth in bonus dispute bashing

Employee loses teeth in bonus dispute bashing

A BULAWAYO man will live to count his losses, or rather his teeth, after an alleged bashing by his boss for asking for an overdue bonus.

For allegedly asking that he be paid $285 in outstanding bonuses, Casper Mhlanga landed in hospital with three missing teeth and injuries all over the body.

His boss Wona Nyoni has since appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Rumbidzai Mukanga but denied charges levelled against him.

He argued he had always known Mhlanga without his front teeth.

"He is lying Your Worship, I have always known the complainant without his teeth that he claims I knocked out and it's impossible that I beat him because I have a plaster on one of my legs. On the day in question, we peacefully agreed that I was going to pay him off the remaining balance," said Nyoni.

But the magistrate queried the plaster tale and quizzed Nyoni if it was impossible to assault Mhlanga using his bare hands and the other functional leg.

Nyoni further claimed that he, in fact, gave the complainant $5 as part of the bonus.

Mhlanga disputed what Nyoni told the court.

"The five dollars that he gave me was for dried vegetables that he owed me, not for the bonus and he is just denying that he attacked me with the aid of his son," said Mhlanga.

"I am also disappointed with the attitude he displayed because it's Christmas and obviously everyone wants to buy groceries for their families," he continued.

The case was postponed to 21 December for the State to gather more evidence.
