Ambassador Cain Mathema, who is also the Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs, has written and published a book entitled: 'I Defend Zimbabwe`s Defence and Security Forces,' with a view to defending the armed forces against the onslaught of the opposition MDC as well as western countries.

The book was serialised from March 2015 to January 2016 by the Patriot newspaper and released three weeks before the defence forces' famous 'Operation Restore Legacy.'

In the book, Mathema argues that the ZDF is an institution created by the constitution of the country and explains how the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) are all part of the state.

The 455-page book is based on historical accounts, current affairs and experiences that date back to the days of the liberation struggle, which the author joined in 1968.

Minister Mathema feels that the defence and security forces know their role of protecting and upholding the constitution and cannot be told by the western world on how to reform or carry out its mandate.

"The reaction from people is that you have predicted what was going to happen and what is happening now. So I was writing about the environment within Zanu-PF, the environment within the country itself and the role that our defence forces should play. Zanu-PF on its own has been captured by political Tsikamutandas [witch hunters], but we had come to a situation where some people would stay away from you and label you anything and that's what Tsikamutandas do," he said.

Although some bookshops refused to have the books on their shelves for political reasons, the book has already received support from academics in various universities and other institutions of higher learning, comrades in Zanu-PF as well as the armed forces.

The Tsholotsho born author and poet has published more than 15 books on economics, politics, news and media, philosophy, political economy and human resources, among other issues.

Mathema has also published poems in English and Ndebele.
