A five-year-old boy died on the spot while his brother was left injured after a scotchcart they were travelling in plunged into a river.

The incident occurred last week along Ware River in Guruve.

Mashonaland Central provincial spokesperson Inspector Memory Pamire confirmed the incident adding that Jeremiah Munzara died on the spot after he crushed his head against a rock along the river.

"When the father of the children, Blessing Munzara, approached the river, he decided to remove the children from the scotchcart leaving the cattle that were drawing the cart unattended," said Insp Pamire.

"The cattle panicked and ran into the river resulting in the scotchcart overturning and throwing out the two boys into the river.

"One of the children hit his head hit against a rock and died on the spot."

Inspector Pamire said the body of the deceased was taken to Guruve hospital for a post-mortem.

She urged members of the public, especially those in rural areas, to desist from carrying people in scotchcarts, which are meant for goods.
