Every so often, we jump to a conclusion without analyzing both sides of a picture. This is often the case with Cannabis. People associate it with negative effects due to its addictiveness. However, as further research on the underlying health benefits its potential to relieve pain and come to light, the plant and its derivatives are becoming more accepted and popular. These benefits include the potential to treat mood disorders, pain and inflammation, and sleep irregularities. It's true to say that the use of Cannabis can be hazardous to human health but there is also a miraculous and beneficial compound within Cannabis known as CBD (Cannabidiol). Different states are legalizing the use of medical marijuana to treat several medical conditions. Its legalization has propelled CBD into a hot and widespread product of our time.

What is the difference between THC and CBD?

Marijuana plants contain 140 compounds known as Cannabinoids. The most popular among them are THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol). THC is considered harmful to health since it affects the nervous system and gets you "high." The addictiveness of THC is due to its psychoactive properties, which can damage your nervous system. But hold on, don't panic, we are not here to discourage you from exploring its health benefits. We are shedding light on the underlying benefits of the cannabis plant, that people may not be aware of. In addition to THC, cannabis contains CBD in it. CBD is totally opposite to THC; it is not psychoactive and can be valuable to you by providing various health benefits, including as pain relief and sleep regulation. If you're still on edge about CBD, this article will help you change your mind about cannabis and its promising uses.

Where Does CBD Come From?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is extracted from the Cannabis plant; it is extracted in concentrated and pure form. In order to make use of it, it is diluted by mixing it with a carter oil or fat (hemp oil, coconut oil or beeswax).

What Does Research Say?

The use of CBD is gaining momentum around the world thanks to the continued research focusing on its potential to treat several medical ailments, particularly pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. States have started legalizing the use of medical marijuana to treat different conditions and their symptoms, but still, its legal status in many regions is still changing. According to a report of the World Health Organization, "there is no evidence of any abusive or dependence effect of the use of CBD oil is indicated in humans, no evidence of public related health problem has been observed so far." We can say that CBD oil is safe to use and has no latent side effects on humans.

Pros of Using CBD Products

Studies show that CBD oil and its products have promising effects on the treatment of many medical conditions. Some of the benefits are highlighted below:
  • Scientific shreds of evidence show that it is effective in the treatment of Childhood Epilepsy Syndrome (DS Dravet syndrome and LGS Lennox-Gastaut syndrome).
  • It has been found that CBD oil can be a potential treatment for different kinds of seizures
  • CBD oil can be associated with pain relief
  • Metabolism of serotonin makes it an excellent anti-depressant
  • It can reduce depression and anxiety, and address their symptoms
  • Patients suffering from insomnia can use CBD oil products to get better sleep
  • The application of CBD oil products (topicals) on the skin can help reduce inflammation and arthritis pain.
  • Evidence shows that it has the potential to treat migraines
  • CBD pills can help lower elevated blood pressure levels
  • If CBD creams and lotions are applied topically, they can treat acne and give you a clear skin tone
  • Some studies show that it can reduce the pain of a cancer patient during chemotherapy and other treatments
  • It can be used in clinical trials to treat autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), dementia, PTSD and other chronic conditions
  • It has anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, anti-diabetic, neuro-protective properties
  • It is not a drug; it is a natural nutritional supplement
  • The Endocannabinoid system allows the body to "heal" on its own

Cons of Using CBD Products

Further research is required to be conducted on the use of CBD and its potential benefits. CBD is commonly marketed as a supplement, not a medication. The FDA has not approved any limitation of its dosage; sometimes the improper use can lead to a problem or the consumer experiencing an unwanted side effect.

Final Thoughts

From an honest standpoint, we can say that research on CBD and its potential for treatment of medical conditions is ongoing. A lot of research is needed to be done to reach a final conclusion. But as far as studies are concerned, people who use CBD products have noticed significant results. To conclude, I would say that CBD is a promising alternative to reduce pain and treat many chronic conditions if used properly and regularly. Do not rely on self-treatment and don't take any sign or symptom lightly, always consult your doctor to get the best suitable medication and treatment. Stay safe and stay healthy!
