Andy Muridzo band members 'steal' journalist's laptop

ANDY Muridzo's two male band members allegedly stole a laptop belonging to a Bulawayo journalist at Royal Hotel where they were booked last Friday.

The hotel is also home to Bulawayo's Media Centre and the crew members are said to have stolen the laptop at the media room.

Andy Muridzo was part of the artistes that were performing at a poorly attended show at City Hall car park on Friday that was headlined by South Africa's Babes Wodumo.

While Andy Muridzo was booked at a different hotel in the city, his boys were up to no good in the other hotel.

Bulawayo Media Centre's chairperson Pamenus Tuso confirmed the incident saying the police found the laptop in one of the band members' rooms after a theft case was reported.

"One of our colleagues Thomas Sithole lost his laptop last Friday at the Media Centre and reported the matter at Central Police Station. The police came and started searching each room and found the laptop under the bed where two of Andy Muridzo's crew were booked in. After they were quizzed about the laptop they admitted that they had stolen it and apologised and the owner decided against pressing charges against them," said Tuso.

He said it was worrying that artistes who are supposed to be role models for younger people are involved in theft cases.

"This is very unfortunate, we expect artistes to be role models and we condemn their actions in the strongest terms. The affected journalist decided not to lay charges against the artistes as he realised that they were young and it could have affected their careers. There is a likelihood that this will cost them their jobs," Tuso said.

Andy Muridzo's manager Alvin Nyapendi was evasive after being contacted about the matter.

"I will call you later. I'm waiting for the boss, we are organising some shows," said Nyapendi who never called back.

His number was later not reachable.
