Low cost internet provider, Powertel Communications' internet connectivity has been down for a week, with the parastatal remaining mum over the disservice.

The blackout has affected Powertel's, a subsidiary of ZESA, national internet connectivity. Powertel offers wifi and dial up dongle internet services.

Powertel clients took to social media networks to vent out their displeasure.

A facebook user, Nicholas Johwani said: "Beitbridge now a week (without internet connectivity)."

Another Powertel subscriber, Nicholas Johwani said: "Update us about service interruption for the past days to now.

"It's now 148 hours no internet connection in Gweru!! Business on the verge of collapse, what's going on Powertel?" posted Charlee Edson on Powertel Zimbabwe Facebook page.

In response to Edson, PowerTel Zimbabwe replied: "We apologise for the down time you experienced on the network in Gweru.

"Kindly inbox us with your email address and contact details so that we are able to advise you on recompense measures you have available to you," said PowerTel Zimbabwe.

Rid Waan posted on Powertel Zimbabwe Facebook page urging the internet provider to compensate its subscribers for the data bundle loss, as some packages have since expired.

Powertel offers a variety of data packages. Its lowest data package, 1 gigabytes cost, $2, 50, while its premium package, monthly unlimited data costs, $40.

The internet provider also has an array of data bundles such as its, two, four and eight gigabytes. It also offers weekly and biweekly bundles which are quite affordable to the internet savvy.

Powertel's customer base augmented phenomenally when it introduced a students' data package promotion in 2013. Currently, it is on a $11 million expansion drive to cater for its large customer base.

Its major competitors are Africom, Telone, Zol and Liquid.
