DELTA Beverages loses over US$48K to former clerk

DELTA Beverages lost more than US$48 000 to its former clerk after she allegedly pocketed money paid by a client for the purchase of drinks. Brenda Bobo (27), who was in charge of receipting and processing RTGS payments and processing customer reconciliation, received payments for beverages amounting to US$48 700 from a client and converted it to her personal use.

Bobo, of Borrowdale Brook, was not asked to plead to fraud charges when she recently appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma.

She was granted US$100 bail coupled with stringent conditions and is expected to be back in court for routine remand on February 6.

Mr Bruce Tokwe is representing Bobo. Prosecutor Mrs Molyn Mutamangira-Mavhondo alleges that between July and September 2010, Bobo on behalf of the company received US$48 700 for beverages from Gleneagles wholesalers.

She received the money in three installments, it is alleged.

This was after she had indicated to Gleneagles wholesaler's manager that there was someone who had deposited money into Delta and needed cash since it was impossible to be refunded back after paying for a product.

She then indicated in the company's system that she had deposited the money. Bobo resigned on April 19 last year. Investigations led to her arrest.
