NetOne calls for peace, tranquillity

MOBILE phone network operator NetOne has joined the growing calls for peace and tranquility to prevail in the blockbuster Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter between Highlanders and Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

The two giants are bankrolled by the mobile phone network company; Highlanders through the One Fusion brand and Dynamos the One Money brand.

"It's our duty as individuals to treat each other with respect. We are all equal! NetOne Promoting Peace in Sport! #WeAreOne #NoToViolence #NoToHooliganism #BossoVsDeMbare18," wrote the company on its official Twitter account yesterday.

Last year's encounter between the two rivals ended prematurely in the 40th minute at Barbourfields Stadium when crowd trouble erupted following a controversial goal by Dynamos' Cameroonian import Christian Epoupa.

Bosso players and fans, however, felt assistant referee Thomas Kusosa should have flagged the striker for offside. With missiles raining on Kusosa, the Gweru-based assistant referee ran to the centre of the field as Bosso players and officials tried to calm down fans. Twice the fans chased Kusosa away from the touchline and after lengthy deliberations, match commissioner on the day Edson Nkau and the referees called off the match. Bosso were subsequently slapped with a fine and the match awarded to Dynamos on a 3-0 score line.

Tomorrow, Highlanders will embark on #FillUpBF and #NoToHooliganism road show. Highlanders' chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube said the road show seeks to conscientise fans that football is a beautiful game.
